Outside Scholarships

 

Students are strongly encouraged to pursue scholarships from outside the university. Your home community and the Internet can be great potential sources for a scholarship. Also, do not stop applying for scholarships once you have been enrolled at Shenandoah University. Outside scholarship opportunities will continue to become available throughout your academic career.

If you receive scholarships from outside of Shenandoah University, please make our office aware by reporting them by selecting the “Report/View Outside Awards” tab from the menu in Hornet Hub.

Students are encouraged to apply to outside scholarships with alternative emails, unless otherwise required. Some outside scholarships will use the email that you submit for marketing purposes.

*Shenandoah University is not the funding entity for these scholarships, nor is the University a part of the selection process. The Office of Financial Aid will add outside scholarships to a student’s award once the scholarship has been reported in Hornet Hub. Payment from an outside scholarship is processed by Hornet Central.

National Federation of the Blind Winchester Chapter – Amy Barnes College Scholarship

  • $2,000 scholarship
  • This scholarship is for any legally blind or low vision student attending college who’s legal residence is currently in the Shenandoah Valley area, or who graduated from a Shenandoah Valley area high school.
  • Blindness or low vision is defined by: Loss of vision that cannot be correct by eye glasses or contact lenses.

January Scholarships

Fighting the Nursing Shortage Scholarship

  • $2,000 scholarship
  • Must be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States
  • Must be pursuing or intend to pursue a degree in nursing
  • Video essay (1 to 2 minutes)
  • Applications are due January 1st, 2025– Application

Woolroom Scholarship

  • $1,500 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Available to current, full-time students at an accredited two-year or four-year American university or college
  • Essay (500 words maximum) or video (2 minutes maximum)
  • Applications are due January 5th, 2025– Application

 

February Scholarships

The Law Office of Jerry D. Andrews, P.C. Community Impact Scholarship

  • $2,500 scholarship
  • Must demonstrate active involvement in community service and exhibit strong leadership qualities
  • Applicant must have an cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Must be an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Essay (1,000 words)
  • Application deadline is February 12th, 2025 – Application

The Blossom Law “Caregiver” Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Scholarship available to both undergraduate & graduate program students
  • Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0

Fawell & Fawell Out-of-State Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Must be enrolled in or accepted at a college or university that is located in a state that you did not attend high school or other than where their parents currently lived
  • Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 as of the most recently completed semester
  • Must be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident
  • Application deadline is February 19th, 2025 – Application

Magaña & Van DykeDominick Marsala Memorial Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship
  • Scholarships available to both undergraduate or graduate program students
  • Applicant must be enrolled an accredited college or university for the Spring 2023 semester
  • Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0

March Scholarships

Jeffrey Coller, Knoxville Criminal Defense Attorney Rising Stars Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must have been attending an undergraduate program for at least one year
  • Open to students who have improved their GPA by at least one point at any time while attending college
  • Must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States and at least 17 years old
  • Essay (1,000 words maximum) 
  • Application deadline is March 12th, 2025 – Application

Striving Solo Parent Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded
  • Aimed to help a single parent who is returning to school to pursue a college degree.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college within the United States for the Fall 2024 semester.
  • Applicant achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in their most recently completed academic semester
  • Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States.
  • Essay (1,500 words maximum) 
  • Application deadline is March 12th, 2025 – Application

Overcoming Disability Scholarship

  • $2,500 scholarship
  • Available to college students who are managing a disability while attending school
  • Will be attending an accredited college or university for the Spring 2024 semester and will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program when the award is received
  • Applicant must be at least 17 years of age upon submitting their application and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Video (3-5 minutes)
  • Application Deadline is March 19th, 2025 – Application

 

April Scholarships

First Generation College Student Scholarship

  • $2,500 scholarship
  • Applicant must be a first-generation college student
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university within the United States
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and a current U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Video (3-5 minutes)
  • Application deadline is April 2nd, 2025 – Application

 

November Scholarships

Brandon Wong & Associates Difference Makers Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university or college within the United States
  • Applicant must be in their junior or senior year of college
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Essay (1,000 word maximum) or Video (5 minutes maximum)
  • Application deadline is November 11th, 2024 – Application

Kanoski Bresney Stand Up to Distracted Driving Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Essay (1,000 words)
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or be a high school senior who will be starting college or university in Fall 2024
  • Current overall GPA of at least 3.0
  • Application deadline is November 13th, 2024 – Application

The MKFM Resilient Student Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship
  • Your parents are either divorced or unmarried.
  • You are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2024 semester.
  • You are 17 years of age or older and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Essay (500 words) or a Video (two-minutes)
  • Application deadline is November 13th, 2024 – Application

Learner’s Annual Women in STEM Scholarship

  • $500 scholarship
  • Must be a woman studying a STEM major
  • Open to all high school senior, undergraduate and graduate students
  • Applicant must be a current U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Essay (400-600 words)
  • Application deadline is November 20th, 2024 – Application

Moving Forward Scholarship

  • $2,500 scholarship 
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Applicant must have a criminal history (Felony and Misdemeanor offenses, not infractions or minor traffic violations) and are trying to change their life for the better.
  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student attending an accredited college or university within the United States
  • Essay (500-800 words)
  • Application is open November 20th, 2024 – Application

Schwartz Injury Law Perseverance Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and 18 years of age or older
  • Must be enrolled (or intending to enroll) at an accredited college or university within the United States for the Spring 2025 semester.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Essay (500-1000 words)
  • Application deadline is November 25th, 2024 – Application

The Behan Law Group Military Veteran Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship offered biannually
  • Essay (500-1,000 words)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA is at least 2.5
  • Must be a U.S. military Veteran, a current service member in the U.S. military, or the child of a Veteran or current service members
  • Application deadline is November 25th, 2024 – Application

Justice in Family Law Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship
  • Essay (500-1,500 words maximum)
  • Must be citizen or legal resident of the U.S.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
  • Applicants must be enrolled (or will be) in an accredited U.S. undergraduate or J.D. program for Spring 2024.
  • Application deadline is November 27th, 2024 – Application

DACA Dreamer Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship
  • Video Essay
  • Applicant must be a DACA recipient 
  • Applicant must have 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college/university for the Spring 2024 semester.
  • Application deadline is November 27th, 2024 – Application

 

December Scholarships

VCTM Edward A. Anderson Scholarship

  • Three $2,000 scholarships
  • Must be a Virginia resident
  • Applicant must be a full-time student attending a 4-year Virginia College or University enrolled in a degree-seeking program with a concentration or major in mathematics
  • Planning to graduate in Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026 (i.e., current juniors for a 4-year licensure program, current seniors for a 5-year licensure program)
  • Planning to teach mathematics in Virginia at the elementary, middle school, high school, and/or college level (at a public or private school)
  • Application deadline is December 1st, 2024 – Application

First-gen futures quarterly scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be a first-generation college student (meaning neither of their parents has obtained a four-year college degree)
  • Must be a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student
  • Applicant must be a current U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Essay (400-600 words)
  • Application deadline is December 1st, 2024 – Application

Burress Injury Law Annual Underdog Scholarships

  • $2,500 – 5,000 in scholarships awarded
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
  • Applicant must demonstrate record of community or volunteer experience
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited U.S. college or university for the Fall 2024 semester
  • Essay (500 word max)
  • Application deadline is December 2nd, 2024 – Application

Healthcare Professionals Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship
  • Essay (one page, 500 words maximum)
  • Must be citizen or legal resident of the U.S.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
  • Applicants must enrolled in an accredited U.S. undergraduate or graduate program through at least Fall 2024.
  • Application deadline is December 2nd, 2024 – Application

Law Office of Jae Lee Immigrant Student Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university or college within the United States
  • The student must be either a first or second generation immigrant living in the United States.
  • The student’s family must be considered to be low-income, with an annual household income of less than $50,000.
  • The student must have a GPA of 4.0 or higher in their most recently completed academic semester.

Alford & Clark Injury Attorneys Students in Need Scholarship

  • $2,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college or university for the 2024 spring semester
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen
  • Applicant must be pursuing a degree in pre-law or humanities (such as government, philosophy, or english)
  • Applicant must have an annual family income under $50,000

Sallie Mae Fund Completing the Dream Scholarship

  • $2,500 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be completing their degree or program by spring 2024
  • Must have an accumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Must be enrolled full- or part-time at an accredited post-secondary institution or continuous education program
  • Video Statement (2 minutes)

Children of Injured Workers Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Applicant must have a parent that has been affected by a work-related injury
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Essay (500-1,000 words)

Ramage Law Group Adopted Child Scholarship 

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicant must have been legally adopted by one or both of their parents
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher as of the last completed academic semester
  • Essay (800 words max)

The Crowder Law Firm Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship awarded biannually
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited university or college for the Spring 2024 semester

Changing the World Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) degree
  • Must be at least 17 years of age an a legal permanent resident or U.S. citizen
  • Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Applicant must also have a maximum household income of $75,000
  • Essay (about 500 words)

Herschensohn Law Future Leaders Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • Designed to support and encourage aspiring students with a passion for justice and advocacy
  • Open to current students, or rising seniors, in an accredited U.S. college or university program
  • Candidates should have a goal of improving the lives of others through their studies.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Essay (1,000 words maximum)
  • Application deadline is December 31st, 2024 – Application

Ward & Ward Legal Advocacy Scholarship

  • $1,000 scholarship 
  • This scholarship is open to any student who is currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, graduate, or professional program in the United States.
  • The scholarship applicant must demonstrate a commitment to helping others.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Essay (1,000 words maximum)
  • Application deadline is December 31st, 2024 – Application

The Synchrony Tech Scholarship

  • $500 – 5,000 scholarships available
  • Supports autistic adults interested in obtaining technology-related certifications in cybersecurity, game/app development, web development, machine learning, data analytics, cloud computing, ethical hacking, and artificial intelligence. 
  • Open to all autistic adults 18 years of age or older who are eligible to work in the United States.
  • Applicant must have a documented medical or educational autism diagnosis
  • Preference will be given to applicants registered on the Hire Autism website
  • Application deadline is December 31st, 2024 – Application
