Shenandoah’s French minor program prepares you for an exciting future in a variety of careers. By learning how to use different communicative skills and gaining insights into French and Francophone cultures, you’ll be able to effectively apply different perspectives. You’ll learn to be flexible in a global world, and you’ll acquire new insights about a different culture that will make you marketable for future job possibilities.
Our program is structured around linguistic and cultural similarities and differences, and provides you with the space for self-expression. You’ll learn in interactive classrooms, with faculty who will encourage you to be innovative and creative in your learning. In addition, you’ll review the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and culture, all taught in French. This program facilitates your ability to communicate effectively in French since only French is spoken in class.

Shenandoah students work with their Academic Advisor to declare a minor. Academic Advisors will continue to work with students to ensure that they fulfill all of the requirements to complete the minor.
Incoming students should not indicate their intended minor on their Shenandoah application. Applications are for intended majors only.

Classes
Our instructors encourage each individual to apply the French minor to their particular major or area of interest, giving you opportunities to explore different activities in terms of your area of specialization. in terms of their needs and talent, giving you opportunities to apply your Students from Shenandoah Conservatory are invited to perform in French according to their major. Students with a different major can explore their activities according to their interests. Although there is a common goal — the French minor — each student is seen for his or her individuality. In such a classroom, students bond easily and continue their friendships outside the classroom. Students who minored in French speak of a “family-like” community that happens readily in such an intimate class setting, and they build confidence in their French skills.
This classroom offers an integrated Mobile Technology program. You’ll Skype with French-speaking families abroad to communicate effectively and exchange cultural traits via the newest technology.

Learning support services are available to all students in every course at Shenandoah. Free peer tutoring with a student who has previously succeeded in the course is available for any course across the university. The Writing Center is available for every stage of the writing process from thesis development to proofreading and bibliography assistance. The Math Enrichment Center is available for math and science assistance. Professors and Academic Advisors across the university also have office hours and open door policies to ensure Shenandoah students succeed academically.
